I’m absolutely astonished after learning on metro.co.uk that Steven Gerrard is not guilty of affray after admitting punching a man because he thought he was going to hit him first.

I always thought self-defence was only a valid defence in law if you were under attack. Luckily for the Liverpool star, the 12 men and women of the jury at Liverpool Crown Court must have all been Liverpool fans and have returned a verdict that will no doubt raise eyebrows amongst many in the UK.
